Comment from Young Person:-

“I would persuade others to take up t he Wheels 2 Work scheme as it is excellent and has hel ped me a lot.  It is easy to take the CBT in Blackburn where the tutors are sound and very helpful.  You get all your safety gear from Fastline in Preston which stocks everything you need.  I have now bought my own moped because I have enjoyed riding the bike back and forth to work.  Once you get used to handling the moped you become more confident on the roads and with the busy traffic.  Using the Wheels 2 Work scheme has allowed me to do my Apprenticeship and it is a lot cheaper than a car.  Also the people who have looked after me on Wheels 2 Work have been very helpful and kind”

Comment from Parent

“We were first told about the Wheels 2 Work scheme when our son was due to leave High School and start his apprenticeship.  His place of work is outside of town and involves shift work so trying to work out how to get him there and back again was a bit of a nightmare.  The Wheels 2 Work scheme gave him his independence.  He had the use of a great moped including all the safety gear at a  very reasonable monthly rate and the training and assistance we were given throughout our time with the scheme was second to none.  The scheme also enabled our son to decide whether this mode of transport was for him before actually buying anything and he has now decided to get his own moped.  Wheels 2 Work is a brilliant scheme!”

Lucy - W2W client

Lucy is 17 years old and is currently attending Preston College on a Media Course. She lives with her mum and sister in Kirkham and was really struggling to get to college and was at risk of losing her placement until her local Youth Centre told her about Wheels 2 Work.

Lucy referred herself to the scheme by telephoning a Project Worker.  An appointment was made to visit Lucy at home and discuss Wheels 2 Work with her mum.  Lucy fulfilled the required criteria and was accepted on the scheme.  Lucy took her CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) but needed more training as she lacked confidence on the road.

Lucy has had her moped for just over 3 months now and loves the freedom and confidence her moped has given her.  Lucy says “Apart from getting me to College on time, I have been able to visit friends I haven’t seen since moving to Kirkham.  I am really grateful to Wheels 2 Work for all the help and support given.”

Lucy has decided that she would like to purchase a moped when she has completed the scheme and is currently saving up towards this.
