Macclesfield Wheels 2 Work originally began following a Transport Audit back in 2004. The audit, in part, focused on young people living in rural areas of the Borough and the problems that they faced in getting to work, education or training.  From these results, Wheels 2 Work was developed to try and combat these problems by offering an alternative method of transport until a long-term solution could be found.

Three years on, and Macclesfield W2W now has the great fortune to be a key part of the North West Region, which covers the rural areas of Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.

Jodrell Bank. Cheshire

Macclesfield Wheels 2 Work has developed both in experience and size and is proving to be a great success. The scheme helps young people to gain access to employment; education or training that otherwise would not have been available to them.

It is a vicious circle – not being able to get to work because you haven’t got a car, and you haven’t got a car because you can’t get to work.  An all too familiar situation to those living in the country.

Scheme Co-ordinator Claire says, “If, for example, you live in Mobberley and have been offered a job at Manchester Airport, how would you get to work if your shift starts at 4.30am?  There certainly aren’t any bus services in operation at that time - this is where we come in and help out”

Rural Macclesfield

For many participants, W2W is a life-changing scheme.  It is making a real difference to both individuals – and families - and greatly increases their potential, and employability for the future.

Not only does the scheme provide a resolution to transport problems, it also gives the users independence, knowledge of road use and road safety, and a sense of responsibility

Plus, we use only local business’, so as to contribute to Cheshire’s sustainable communities!  Very often rural businesses are assisted by W2W as they struggle to recruit staff – we help to solve that problem too!

If you live or work in Macclesfield Borough, are between 16 and 20, and are struggling to get to work, education or training because of a lack of transport options, then we can help you.

Wheels 2 Work provides a fully taxed and insured moped for a period of up to six months (9 months if at College), breakdown cover, full protective equipment - jacket, gloves, waterproof trousers and a motorcycle helmet.  We put you through your Compulsory Basic Training, give you good safety advice (and support) and look after you along the way!

If you feel that you fit the above criteria, then Wheels 2 Work could help you!
